Valeria Mercado is a remarkable artist with a peculiar style. Following the influences of Goya and the grotesque art of Bosch, her paintings challenge the eye of the beholder. Valeria, like Goya, was born and raised in the midst of challenging social and political times. Through paintings, both artists found a way to express their feelings on the world surrounding them. Although Valeria seeks to represent faces and human bodies, she does not intend to be realistic. Rather, she criticizes the absurd and the excesses of contemporary life. Using acrylic, oil paste, ink and watercolors on diverse surfaces, she shapes her artworks to provoke the viewer. Since Valeria expects the public to have their own experience with the piece, sometimes she does not title her artwork to avoid spoiling their imagination.
